I love these national * insert random food here * days! Bring on national chocolate, tea, coffee, Twizzlers bites, mega stuff Oreo, and Chicken in a Biskit day!
Buuuuttt, popcorn really does have a special place in my heart. It’s one of my favorite snacks to unwind with while watching TV with hubby or reading. My supply used to be limited to the premade bags from the store–or the delicious kiosk in the middle of the mall–but not anymore.
Have you ever tried topping homemade popcorn with seasoning only to be disappointed because the powders don’t stick? Me too–until I learned an easy, low fat/calorie trick! Make plain popcorn as usual, then spread it across a baking sheet in an even layer. Spray the popcorn with a light coating of cooking spray and sprinkle on the seasoning. The cooking spray makes the powder stick without causing the popcorn to become soggy!

And you’re not limited to using the store-bought seasonings either! There are tons of great recipes online for flavoring mixtures that you can blend using the spices from your baking cabinet. I learned about my favorite one from the Chew. It’s a savory blend that was originally meant for flavoring potato chips, but it’s just as good on popcorn!
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
1 teaspoon sweet paprika
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon dried thyme
1/2 teaspoon salt
Mix and sprinkle away!
There’s also a million different kinds of popcorn kernels available now (who knew?!). It would be an understatement to say that I have delicate teeth. I won’t go into that, but suffice to say that popcorn kernels are not my friend. Fortunately, I discovered Tiny But Mighty popcorn. The kernels are, well, tiny, and it’s advertised that the individual kernels disintegrate when they pop. I can happily vouch that these claims are absolutely true. No kernels to get caught in my teeth, low risk of accidentally chomping an unpopped one. Win-win. I highly recommend. (If I remember correctly, they are sold in both bags for air popper and microwave, so you can pick whichever you prefer!)

Are you a popcorn fan? What’s your favorite kind?
MAHGOSH, you just saved my life. I LOVE air-popped popcorn, but am always so disappointed about the seasonings falling to the bottom–thank you so so much for the handy tip, I’ll be employing that the next time I indulge!
I blame my mom for my popcorn obsession. It’s calmed down in recent years, but I think this is due to the seasoning fiasco. My favorite is kettle corn, though I’m the only one in my family who enjoys it. Of course, this means more for me! 😀

That’s the exact reaction I had when I first learned the trick! Glad to help ^_^ I also like kettle corn, even though I generally prefer salty/savory flavors. It’s a nice change up!

This made my mouth water and im craving popcorn now but never tried other flavours other than the normal salted, sweet or caramel (caramel being my favourite). Are there any you could maybe recommend to a newbie? 🙂

It’s hard to go wrong, no matter what you pick, but if you like sweet flavors maybe try chocolate drizzled popcorn. You can make it by melting chocolate chips or a plain chocolate bar in a bowl in the microwave, then pour over the popcorn in thin stripes. If the chocolate is too think or clumpy, just add a little butter to the bowl while microwaving it. ^_^ For savory flavors, you can’t go wrong with cheese!

When I worked at a movie theater, we used to dip popcorn in spicy nacho cheese. Sounds gross, but so yummy.

I’ve had spicy nacho cheese powder on popcorn and it really is good–so if you like cheese, I bet your version was even better!
